Three unrelated thoughts about Hurricane Sandy

Over/under on the number of struggling NYC writers who wrote storm-unpreparedness pieces using that collapsed façade as a central motif: 1.3 million.

A few million more rolled their eyes at this building's use of a tired device.

The 14-foot storm surge and subsequent flooding was worse than the MTA’s “worst-case scenario”. Here’s the thing: a worst-case scenario is not supposed to be outdone by actuality. This was a bummer-case scenario. If I’m asked to give my worst-case scenario, it’s going to involve aliens and the Ark of the Covenant.

Conversely, what was the best-case scenario predicted by the people in charge of the crane on top of THE ONLY TALL BUILDING IN THE AREA? I’d almost rather hear that they just forgot it was there, than that they carefully surveyed their options and elected to double down on bungee cord.

That'll do, pig.
