Had John McCain, who doesn't currently know where he is, decided that he wanted to run for re-election, he probably would have voted yes and allowed the thing to pass. At which point the House would probably have passed it. We would have then gotten the hideous and deserved specter of Republican senators, suddenly mortified at their own destructive idiocy, campaigning vituperatively for the death of the very bill they voted for.
Had this repeal passed, premiums for everyone in the U.S. would have soared. For literally no reason. No ideological reason, no strategic reason, certainly no intelligent actuarial reason. Just because they felt like they had to deliver on that empty "ruin Obama's victory" promise they monetized for almost a decade.
Catastrophic. Immorally stupid. A complete disgrace. Evidence of the failure of the U.S. political system. Eternally damning to this despicable generation of Republicans.

Trump is the least of their problems.
