2.9.17 - Conservatism's Primacy

Because conservatism (meaning conservative, capitalistic, near-sighted, small-minded orthodoxy) exists closer to the self, it exists closer to the prime directive of every organism. Of course it’s going to seem like more of a reasonable, almost default opinion in argument. You can’t undercut it by saying that your directive to help others is superior because it’s further from the self and the preservation of one’s family, which is going to resonate with nearly everyone as more compelling a goal than some vague advancement.

The model of openness that will win needs to be one based on self-interest. One that furthers your goals, not one that is rooted in altruism or high-mindedness.
