2.10.17 - Mars Just In Time

It’s a good thing Elon Musk is getting us ready to get to Mars right now. It might end up perfectly timed. Pretty soon, we'll be 3D printing food and have most manual tasks (the vast majority of what we used to call "jobs") automated, we will have no real challenge to solve as organisms. The struggle of furthering society will be taken care of. On top of that, we may have a Malthusian problem to address at some point.

Lucky us, then, that we'll have another goal waiting, which will be to do the life-finds-a-way routine and extend ourselves to another planet.

I could even see it being a conscientious, social justice fight to get us off the earth. We are a parasite, after all, and the least we can do will be to spread ourselves out so we stop overtaxing our host. Anyway whether it's that or some other impetus, it'll be just the nature of life that will be programming us to colonize.
